The one-piece pantyhose garment appeared in the 1960s and provided a convenient alternative to stockings (nylons).

The term ‘pantyhose’ originated in the United States, referring to the combination of ‘panties’ (an American term for women’s underpants) with sheer nylon hosiery. About Spiral Bevel Gears and Its Comparison with Hypoid Gears

Spiral bevel gears are gears with helical teeth. These gears are used in the differential of a vehicle where the drive’s direction must be turned at an angle of 90 degrees from the drive shaft to drive the wheels. The helical design facilitates less vibration and noise in comparison to the traditional spur-cut gears with straight teeth.

The pinion and gear are always of opposite hand in a hypoid gear. It incorporates some sliding and can be considered as the midway between a worm and straight-cut gear. A hypoid gear requires special oils to ensure smooth sliding action under extreme conditions between the teeth.

Although hypoid gears operate more quietly, they also have some sliding action which reduces their mechanical efficiency. Earlier, hypoid were used in rear-drive automobile drivetrains, but their modern designs have made them a neat substitute of the spiral bevel.

A hypoid is still common in trucks due to the capability of trucks in transmitting higher torque. However, one cannot replace hypoid with the spiral bevel gear in automotive because the latter requires a much larger diameter in comparison to the former one to transmit the requisite torque.

How Does A MIG Welder Work?

The Metal Inert Gas or MIG welder has been developed since the 1940s and has become the choice way to weld. It uses a procedure called gas metal arc welding (GMAW). It is a relatively simple process. It uses a welding gun to control the feeding of a wire, also known as the electrode, and distributes a stream of inert or semi inert gas over the join to protect the process.

These days the most common gas to be used is the semi inert gas known as carbon dioxide as this is check and works effectively on most metals. Gases such as argon is also used when working on metals such as aluminum as it produces fewer splatters, giving a better finish.

The GMAW process has many more benefits compared with other types of processes. If you want you can also use a MIG welder even without the gas to shield the join. The process is called flux cored arc welding (FCAW). This process uses a wire that has a hollow core that is filled with flux to produce a clean join. This allows you to work outdoors as you don’t need the shielding gas. As a result, the flux core wire is hotter and can be used for thicker joins. A resulting problem is that you will need to clean the slag from the join.
