What You Need To Know About Fabrics

Are you looking for fabrics? There are two main types of fabrics that you can go with: knitted and woven. Knitted fabrics are created when you intertwine loops of fibers around each other. Knitted fabrics are usually soft and stretchy. Excellent examples of outfits made from knitted fabrics are: jumpers, t-shirts and leggings.

Woven fabrics on the other hand are created in the same way as carpets and tapestries and they are woven on a loom. A basic weave consists of two thread sets: warp and weft. The warp thread runs vertically while the weft thread runs horizontally. A major characteristic of woven fabrics is that they are crisp, rigid and only stretch diagonally.

Fibers Used In Making Fabrics

Fabrics are made from different types of fibers. The most common ones are:

Natural fibers:

Natural fibers are either plant based or animal products. Plant based fibers include: cotton and linen. Animal products include: wool and silk.

Synthetic:

Synthetic fibers include: nylon, acrylic and polyester. In most cases, synthetic fibers are blended with natural fibers in order to add strength and durability. There are some people who add natural fibers in order to make the fibers wrinkle resistant.

Hybrid fibers:

These are fibers that can’t be said to be natural or synthetic. A good example is viscose that is derived from plant cellulose. Since cellulose is processed, it can’t be said to be natural-it also can’t be said to be synthetic. Viscose is an excellent substitute for silk. You can also use it instead of wool, cotton or linen.

Weight of the Fabric

Weight is very important in fabrics as it determines how suitable they will be for a given outfit. Weight also determines how easy you will be able to work with the fabric in order to make your desired clothing.

Fabrics can be classified as light, medium or heavy in weight. Lightweight fabrics are those made with fine, light fibers. These fabrics usually weigh 1-3 ounces per yard. Great examples include: chiffon, voile and organza.

Medium weight fabrics weigh 4-7 ounces per yard and include: silk, cotton, linen and wool.

Heavyweight fabrics weigh over 7 ounces per yard and their thick nature makes them difficult to penetrate with a needle. Great examples are denim and corduroy.

Conclusion

This is what you need to know about fabrics. When buying the fabrics always ensure that you buy them from a reputable store.

What Is The Synthetic Brake Fluid?

Synthetic Brake Fluid is easily one of the most neglected fluids in most vehicles around the world. Manufacturers recommend that you change your brake fluid every 3 years. The Brake Fluid possesses lifesaving qualities yet people often check everything except the brake fluid.

So, in order to help understand the importance and to find the best brake fluid we will learn about the chemical properties and what is the purpose of brake fluid.

All Brake fluid is synthetic hydraulic fluid that helps apply pressure to the brake components.

Hydraulic fluids are the mediums used to transfer power throughout hydraulic components. Hydraulic fluids are known for transferring force into pressure which is how your foot applying pressure to your brakes stops your vehicle.

This is important because new brake fluid is incompressible, which helps apply quality pressure to the brake mechanism.

This is especially important for:

Those who commute long distances in warm weather. When brake fluid is overheated it puts your brake mechanism at risk. Once the brake fluid begins boiling the fluid turns into a gas and makes the gas compressible. Leaving your brakes very soft and will lead to “cadence braking”.

Cadence braking is also referred to as stutter braking, meaning repeatedly pressing the brake to prevent the brakes from locking up.

Most modern vehicles have anti-lock brakes or “ABS” if there is no pressure in the brake lines this system will not provide too much assistance. There are a few braking techniques here.

Brake Fluid Types:

So as you may or may not notice there are 4 different types of brake fluids.

Viscosity Limit

The brake fluid grade comes from the different temperatures that the fluid maintains while it’s stable and the corrosion characteristics. There are more characteristics taken into consideration but we are going to just focus on those two.

Viscosity is important to those that have ABS systems because the pressure and volume of fluid is not transferred. This means manufacturer’s suggested viscosity is important to take into consideration.

DOT3

Is one of two brake fluids that are capable of absorbing water from the air. DOT3 is Glycol Ether Based. The benefit of using Glycol Ether is its high boiling point with a lower molecular weight. DOT3 is a very commonly used synthetic brake fluids because it is the most economical when it comes to meeting the government standards.

DOT4

Is the next brake fluid that can absorb water through the air, when handling both DOT3 & DOT4, it is important to limit the exposure to the air. Also you don’t to spill any of this on your car because of the chemical properties of the Glycol Ether.

Only open the brake fluid reservoir when necessary, make sure you seal the plastic bottle tightly. DOT4 has a high stability and a high boiling point when it’s new.

If, water is absorbed into DOT4 the boiling point drops rapidly, even more than DOT3. DOT4 is referred to as a race or performance brake fluid because of the viscosity limit. Therefore when it comes to performance vehicle it is important to change your brake fluid more frequently.

DOT5.1

Unlike DOT3 and DOT4, DOT5 fluid doesn’t absorb water.

DOT 5.1 is also hydrophobic which means none absorbing and is used because of the lower chances of corrosion. DOT 5.1 used to be exclusively in the high performance industry because it requires so much attention.

DOT 5 has its benefits of being silicon based, it won’t chip paint if you spill it on your car. When pouring DOT 5 you have to pour slowly. Pouring too fast will create air bubbles and this will put gas in your brake lines which will leave your vehicle at risk.

If your vehicle is use as a Sunday driver it almost certainly will have to be bleed after every time you let it sits for a long time. The moisture in the brake lines pool at the lowest point which is normally in the caliper. This once again makes the fluid compressible and puts your vehicle at risk.

Small Hole Drilling Applications

The applications of EDM small hole drilling might be expected to be very limited in scope. Indeed, it would be difficult to think of a more innocuous phrase than small hole drilling, a phrase befitting a niche technology. But this belies the reality of EDM small hole drilling as a machining method used in many industries, industries that value precision and the characteristic of EDM to drill through very tough materials. Its use in gas turbines is the best illustration of what EDM small hole drilling can do in your industry.

Gas Turbines and Hole Popping

A gas turbine is a highly adaptable type of internal combustion engine that converts the impulse generated by the combustion of compressed air and fuel into useful work. How this work is harnessed determines whether a gas turbine is part of a power generator or a jet engine. A jet engine harnesses the jet of exhaust gases created by combustion for thrust, for example. Common to all gas turbine engines, however, is a turbine located downstream of the combustion chamber, which gives them one of their most important characteristics—they are self-sustaining. The compressor that allows for efficient combustion is powered by the electricity generated by the turbine. But for such a critical role, gas turbines are subjected to an extremely hostile environment of intense heat and centrifugal forces, and it is no surprise that the alleviation of this problem has been a major impetus in gas turbine development.

The primary limiting factor in gas turbine development has been heat, and research looking to alleviate the problem of heat has focused on two areas. One area is material science. Since the problem of heat was recognized, many cutting edge alloys have been developed that can resist both the heat and centrifugal forces found inside a gas turbine. But today, this is not enough. Temperatures in modern gas turbine engines can exceed the melting point of even these advanced alloys. This prompted the second wave of gas turbine development, which focused on cooling methods. One of the most prevalent cooling methods is called film cooling. In film cooling, air is directed through holes drilled on the surface of a turbine blade, creating a film on the surface of the blade that acts as a barrier to super-hot exhaust gases. Modern turbine blades combine advanced, adamantine alloys with cooling holes, to which only EDM small hole drilling is suited.

The characteristics that suit EDM small hole drillings to applications such as turbine blade cooling hole drilling are its ability to drill through very hard materials, an absence of machine tool pressure, and pinpoint accuracy. An EDM electrode never makes physical contact with its workpiece, which means that an electrode will work regardless of how hard the workpiece is. This lack of physical contact also eliminates machine tool pressure, which can prevent working on a delicate workpiece like a turbine blade, and create burrs and other deformities. This lack of machine tool pressure also contributes to the great accuracy of EDM small hole drilling. Below are just some of the applications of EDM small hole drilling. This list is not comprehensive, but only suggestive of hole popping’s great versatility.

Fuel Injection

Fuel injection has essentially supplanted carburetion in automotive engines. Due to the superior precision with which fuel can be delivered to a combustion engine, fuel injection engines boast superior fuel economy, less toxic emissions, and require less maintenance than engines using carburetion. A fuel injector uses very small nozzles to atomize gasoline or diesel fuel, ensuring a precise and predictable delivery of fuel. This is why EDM small hole drilling is the favored machining method. A lack of precision in the diameters of nozzle openings could hamper proper functioning of a fuel injector.

Who can Use Amber Strobe Lights in the Field?

No matter where you live, you have probably seen an amber light bar. The color amber, often referred to as yellow, is by far the most popular warning light color on the market and on the road. While nearly anyone can use an amber light, it is important to realize that amber lighting is usually used on a slow-moving vehicle, or a vehicle that is prone to making many sudden stops. If you are shopping for amber strobe lights for your fleet vehicle, POV, warning light vehicle, or storm chasing vehicle.

Amber is a Permissive Warning Light Color

The reason the color amber is so often seen on the road is because it is the most permissive warning light color in the United States. While police and firefighters use red and blue whites, amber lights are generally used by non-emergency vehicle drivers. However, when emergency responders do use amber lighting, it is usually to the rear of the vehicle.

Amber Strobe Lights are One of The Most Popular Emergency Lights in The Field

One of the reasons amber lighting is the most popular emergency light used in the field is because it is incredibly easy to see, which means people immediately take notice when they see amber lights flashing on the road. In addition to being used as an emergency light, amber warning lights are also used in warning equipment such as construction equipment and on construction vehicles too.

First Responders and Warning Vehicle Drivers Often Use Amber Lighting

While many warning vehicles are outfitted with amber warning lights, first responder vehicles can also use amber lighting. However, when a first responder uses amber lights, it is usually in conjunction with a variety of other different warning light colors including red, blue, and white. In some states, police cruisers, fire trucks, and ambulances only used amber strobe light series if they are rear-facing.

Vehicles that only opt for amber lighting usually include construction company vehicles, public utility vehicles, and security vehicles. In most states, if a vehicle is only going to be used on private property, drivers can freely use amber warning lights without risk of punishment by law enforcement. However, it is also best to check with local authorities or formal legal sources before installing any type of warning light on a publicly or privately-owned vehicle.

Amber Warning Lights are Commonly Used by Storm Spotters

Another group of drivers that regularly use amber warning lights is storm spotters. People who chase storms often opt for amber or white lighting on their personal or company vehicles because it allows other drivers to recognize that they aren’t just casually driving in bad weather. It also helps these vehicles increase their visibility on the road and helps to create much needed light output in extremely dark weather conditions.

However, before you install storm spotting equipment on your personal vehicle, you need to make sure you are legally allowed to use amber lighting in your state. To do this, make sure to study local state statutes. Here, it should be clearly outlined who can and cannot use amber lights on the road. Furthermore, some states will require that a storm chaser has the proper licenses or certificates before installing and using this type of equipment on public roads.

Choose Strobe Lighting in a Variety of Different Applications

Much like anything else, all strobe lights are not made exactly the same. On the website of Ching Mars, we provide many different types of strobe lights. If you need any help choosing the right lights for your vehicle, please feel free to contact with Ching Mars – the professional amber strobe light manufacturer in Taiwan.

What Is a CNC Punch Press?

Punch Presses are generally used in the Sheet metal industry; however they may be employed in other types of industry where the process of punching out shapes of different materials is required.

The punch press is used for cutting and forming material into various shapes and sizes and is a type of machine press. These presses may be very large CNC operated machines which hold large complex die sets, or they may be small manually operated machines which only hold one simple die.

Die sets usually consist of ‘female’ dies and ‘male’ punches, and when pressed together with the desired material placed between them, may form a hole or even deform the material (workpiece) into the desired shape of form. The punch is fixed to the end of a ram which moves up and down during the punching process in a vertically linear motion, and the dies and punches are removable to enable different shapes and holes to be formed into the workpiece.

There are mainly two types of common machines and these are generally large frame metal pieces of equipment. These are C type frames and portal type frames. On the C type frame there is a hydraulic ram set at the top part which allows the punching process to be carried out. On the portal type frame, the ram is cantered within the frame to prevent frame distortion and deflection.

Punch press machines all have a bed or table with rollers or brushes incorporated into them to enable the workpiece or the sheet of metal to travel with low friction. Brushes are mainly employed when minimal scratching or similar marks are not desirable, and the brushes provide a suitable finish to the material. Brushed aluminum or highly polished steels are an example of this process.

Punch presses are machines used for processing sheets of material, usually sheet metal, and they perform the operation of forming or stamping the sheet material at specified areas. Many of these machines will have a system by which they are controlled, and CNC operations allow for automatic modes determined by a pre-built program.

A punch press is characterized by some basic parameters and these will include:

  • Type of tool shop

  • Tool shop capacity

  • Size of working area

  • The working force (20 tons for example)

There are different types of CNC punch presses and they include the hydraulic punch press, the mechanical punch press and the flywheel driven press. Punch presses are often referred to by their tonnage, and the sizing tooling needed for a specific task is a straight forward process as the tonnage required to form and cut most materials is well known.

Since 1989, Tailift developed the first CNC punch press machine. We have built the reputation as one of Asia’s top manufacturers and suppliers of sheet metal working machines. Our CNC punch presses are outstanding machines for punching and forming. If you are interested in learning more information about punch press, welcome to visit the website of Tailift or contact with us directly!

The Different Types of Wall Mount That Will Suit Your Needs

Wall mount is the more convenient way to display LCD and Plasma television sets. Having your TV mounting on the wall will give you a lot of free space. It is also advantageous if you have a small space to work on. Mounting a flat screen LCD monitor is as simple as hanging a picture frame with the use of a mount. Before going out the buy a mount for your television set, it is best to educate yourself with what is available in the market right now. There are actually three types of wall mounts to choose from.

  1. Low-profile TV Wall Mount:

This is usually the cheapest and easiest to install. The only disadvantage of buying this kind of mount is that you can longer adjust the TV set once it has been mounted. This type is also called flat or flush mounts.

  1. Titling Wall Mount:

From the name itself, this mount has a mechanism that will allow you to tilt your TV vertically for a more ideal viewing. This is also an affordable choice and is not that difficult to install. This is ideal if you will be mounting a television high on the wall.

  1. Full-motion Mount:

This is also known as also known as articulating mounts or cantilever mounts. Full motion wall mounts are the best solution if you want to be able to adjust your TV in all directions. You have the option to adjust the TV set in all angles as well as move it away from the wall for better TV viewing. This is most expensive among the three types of mounts. Installing a full-motion wall mount may also be a challenge because of its moving parts. You want to get some help installing this type of mount.

Wall mount is made from heavy duty materials allowing it to carry the weight of the TV monitor. When buying a flat screen LCD or plasma TV, it is advisable to check with the retailer the best mount to use for your purchase. LCD Wall mounts can be adjusted and also come in different sizes. There are some TV sets that actually have a specific wall mount suited for the brand. You may also ask them if they will handle the mounting of the new TV that you purchased. This will make the job faster and easier if a professional can do it for you.

What Is a Swiss Lathe?

A Swiss lathe is a style of lathe in which the collet, or holding mechanism, is recessed behind a guide bushing. Swiss lathes are also being known as Swiss turning centers, Swiss automatic lathes or Swiss screw machines. A Swiss lathe is different from a traditional lathe in that the collet, which holds the bar stock, is not directly exposed to the tooling and bed of the lathe. This type of configuration allows this machine tool certain benefits over a traditional type of lathe.

The Swiss lathe’s advantages over a traditional lathe is largely because it uses a guide bushing. The purpose of the guide bushing is to provide additional support to the stock material as the part is being turned or machined. The guide bushing fits closely, but not tightly, around the bar stock material. Supporting the bar stock material, a guide bushing functions in a similar manner as a steady rest would on the carriage of a traditional lathe.

Swiss-style lathes generally hold better tolerances on parts because the turning operations are performed within close proximity to this guide bushing. The guide bushing provides rigidity to the turned part because only a minimal amount of stock is exposed after leaving the bushing until the turning tools are engaged. With the rigidity that the guide bushing imparts on the stock, these machines are particularly well adapted for holding tight tolerances. Another payoff is the Swiss style lathe’s ability to turn small-diameter parts or parts with large length-to-diameter ratios. Tool chatter typically is minimized because of the tool/guide bushing juxtaposition.

There are two types of Swiss lathe machine tools. Mechanical lathes use cams, gearing systems and mechanical linkages to move the headstock and manipulate the collet and tooling. These types of machines have been replaced in many places by computer numerical control (CNC) Swiss lathes.

A CNC Swiss lathe will utilize many computer-controlled components. A great number of these components can be adjusted while the machine is in operation. The advantage of a CNC Swiss lathe is that the precision of a traditional machine is maintained while the functionality of the machine is increased with the addition of a computer and its controlled components.

Modern types of CNC Swiss lathes might include multiple axis and live secondary tooling, moving tail stocks or secondary spindles. Depending on the desired part configuration, some Swiss lathes have the capability of turning and machining parts complete. This eliminates the need for secondary operations.

A disadvantage with all Swiss lathes is the bar stock remnants. These generally are longer than those found on a traditional type of lathe and generally would be considered scrap. Long remnants are the result of the configuration of the collet and guide bushing in this machine.

Chest Waders – Advice on Picking Your Next Set

Having a good pair of chest waders out in the swamps can make the difference between a great trip and a miserable trip. Anyone who has pulled on a pair of bad waders knows that miserable feeling you get when you feel water trickling in, or the nasty chill of cold water in a fast-moving river. When you are looking for a pair of chest waders you are going to want to match the wader to the most common activity.

You have essentially two choices in wader style. Stockingfoot and Boot Foot. A stocking foot chest wader is like a pair of kids pajamas. They are completely waterproof, but the feet are like stockings. You need to purchase a pair of separate boots to protect the stocking feet. Boot foot chest waders are just like they sound a pair of waders with a built-in boot. The main problem with boot foot waders is that they can be a bit heavier and clumsier when working through water with a muck bottom. The other issue we have noticed with boot foot waders is that they tend to begin leaking where the top of the boot meets the leg of the wader.

When looking for wading boots to go over a pair of stocking-foot waders, order one size larger than your shoe size. When considering the soles on the boots, consider that cleated soles are durable general purpose soles. They are good on wet banks, mud and snow, but not so safe on rocks underwater. Felt soles are excellent on bare rocks and concrete and under water, but very slippery on wet grass, snow, and slimy surfaces. Felt plus a cleated heel can be a pretty good compromise.

As far as we are concerned, there are only two materials to consider when buying a set of chest waders. Breathable Membranes and Neoprene. Breathable have advanced nicely since they were introduced a few years ago. They are well suited for warm weather fishing, and great if you plan to do a ton of walking in them. They can be very expensive, but prices have been coming down.

Neoprene is by far the best material for cold conditions. We use neoprene for all of our waterfowl hunting and early spring fishing. Neoprene chest waders can be susceptible to punctures, so you need to be very careful in them. Repair kits are available for neoprene waders and you would be wise to keep a kit on-hand when out in the field.

The Growth of UAVs and the Risks It Poses to the Public

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are being used for a number of civilian and commercial purposes, from photography and videography, survey and mapping, inspections, transport to network swarming where they work together to complete a task. This article discusses some of UAV’s current commercial applications and the risk that the growth of UAVs poses on the public.

Agriculture and Wildlife

UAVs can be used to monitor many aspects of agriculture. Apart from offering an aerial inspection of the crops, they can help in inspecting soil erosion and other parameters that are hard to observe from the ground. In addition to agriculture, they can prove to be quite helpful in forestry too. They can take photos of the forests as well as the wildlife present in them to keep a steady count of the animals living in there. Moreover, they can be used to assist in putting out forest fires that may erupt from time to time.

Security and Law Enforcement

The borders as well as internal security can be very well taken care of with unmanned aerial vehicle technology. They can also play a crucial role in law enforcement too. They can be used for assisting the police in catching criminals and collecting evidence, search and rescues, surveillance and more.

Commercial Sector

UAVs may replace manned vehicles in the commercial field as some services have little need for human involvement, including transporting commodities from one place to another with ease.

Despite all of the promise that UAVs have shown, the commercial use of these aerial vehicles is still in its initial developmental phase. You may not see transport activities being carried out with the help of UAVs in the near future because of the risks they pose.

Safety Risks Related to UAV Transport

It is the duty of the national airspace authority to make sure that the airspace remains safe. However, unmanned aerial vehicle transport poses a great threat to airspace safety as it is extremely hard to control the drone’s flight pattern especially when it is flying into an area where various airplanes carrying passengers and goods are present. The following are some of the safety risks that may arise because of UAV transportation.

Air Collisions

The risks of air collisions increase when an airborne vehicle is not operated by a sensible and trained pilot. So, when we are talking about a UAV which isn’t controlled by any pilot, the chances of a collision happening in the air multiply greatly. While the pilot of a manned aircraft can detect the presence of vehicles flying in their vicinity and take evasive action quickly, a drone cannot make that call unless it is directed to do so from the ground. Thus, UAVs are more likely to get involved in an air collision than piloted aircraft. Unless this safety issue is resolved, the future of UAV transport looks questionable.

Ground Collisions

It is not only the collision of the UAV with other aircraft in the air that may cause great damage. They can collide with objects on the ground too, causing damage to both people and their properties. There is always a possibility of the UAV going berserk due to loss of signal from the operator or some technical fault in the system. This will pose a risk of the UAV falling from the air and crashing in a populated area. This may lead to the debris entering the houses or people getting killed as a result of the direct impact.

System Reliability

When it comes to relying on the devices and gadgets solely based on technology there is always an apprehension because of the history of failures that one has seen through the years. UAVs controlled from the ground that are operated using human intelligence can be manipulated as the on-ground pilot take decisions based on the situation. However, such systems too have been seen to crash and become the major cause of loss of lives during transport. The most common reason for accidents of this sort has been failure of various parts and machinery of the aircraft. So, when it comes to leaving decision making to machines that only operate as per pre-fed instructions, the risk of accidents increases many folds. It will take a lot of research and analysis to produce a system that is reliable in future. However, as of now the use of UAVs is still under observation and it will take many more years for them to share the airspace with manned aircraft.

Insurance Issues

Getting insurance is also an important issue as people find it extremely hard to get their UAVs insured. The main problem cited by many insurance providers is the susceptibility of the system to failure. In addition to this, the safety issues related to the UAVs is another concern why insurance companies are reluctant to insure these aerial vehicles.

Privacy and Security Issues

Privacy is a major concern associated with drone use as no one wants UAVs peeping into their homes while flying past them. Moreover, the UAVs themselves are not very safe and can be hacked any time. If a drone is hacked by terrorists then they can use it for their ulterior motives, risking the life of millions.

So, because of all of these issues and concerns, governments all over the world are reluctant to go forward with unmanned aerial vehicle transport for now.
